Your comprehensive oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays, which could include the panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth, full mouth xrays or bite-wing x-rays for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth.
The dentist then examines the cheeks, palate, throat, tongue, floor of the mouth, and your lips. The teeth are evaluated for cracks, cavities, malformations and malocclusions. The dentist looks for any problems that a patient may have including oral cancer, cysts, benign tumors, or oral signs of cancer in other parts of the body.
